A Loving Tribute
精彩書摘
In the early fall of 1986, I finally bid farewell to my dear parents and started a new journey of mylife. After the first six months as a visiting scholar at Michigan State University, I held a solo concertfor the first time in the United States. In a beautiful melody with a typical style of Jiangnan, I playedmy fathers work Moonlight for the audience. It seems as if I was back to my hometown to see my dearparents.
I got a full scholarship at University of Southern California in 1987, and came to the GoldenState for study under the guidance of Professor Sheffield, who is a famous cellist in the west. I reallyhad a hard time during my study in the Art ivory tower there. Life was hard that it blew away allmy impractical aspirations. I never stopped working part-time, and insisted on holding the rule of"Pragmatism". I have to go through myself a difficult but practical way, and when I have completed,I will go back to regain my pristine dream. After the unforgettable hard work time that more than adecade, I reached the stage of"Financial Free" in the US. I had an intense homesickness for my parentsand my motherland, and started my step to search for the root of art.
I finally returned to my hometown where I had dreamed of for long. I was born in a music family inShanghai and my original ancestral home is in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. It is my unshared joy andunshakable duty to introduce Jiangnan, the place where I come from, to American photographer friends.Shanghai has been fully equipped with a metropolitan image of world-class. Wuzhen, so-called Veniceof the East, has made American photographers excited indeed. Songjiang and the heavenly vision ofSuzhou and Hangzhou have earned more exclamations. I am proud of my motherlands new look. It ismy responsibility to cooperate with Professor Lu Lin for Sino-US cultural exchange projects which havefar-reaching influence. Photographers are masters of the lens language. I sincerely hope that these workscan reflect the lasting impression on their minds.
