在古日本有位背上長上一對翅膀的女孩子（稱為翼人）。翼人一直是古日本的兵器，最後一個翼人神奈備命，被視為接近神的人一直被當作求神賜予糧食的工具，因為如此，令外界對她又愛又怕，視為不祥又視為神聖。後來遇上瞭被派來“保護”她的柳也，和女官裏葉一起去尋找母親（八百比丘尼）。尋找到母親後不久母親就被弓兵射死，神奈是在空中被弓兵亂箭射死和被降魔咒所傷。可是死後她沒有掉下來，而是在空中飄浮著，並且受到詛咒，墮入無限的輪迴，一直被睏在悲傷的夢中。裏葉和柳也為瞭幫助神奈，決定為瞭替神奈解咒，要誕下後代來替自己完成心願。

　　當然，可以肯定的是，這些書決不是我的啓濛讀物。我的啓濛讀物和許多孩子一樣，也是《伊索寓言》、《格林童話》、《安徒生童話》、《格列佛遊記》等等。但為什麼記憶深刻的還是前麵提到的那些帶有探索（探案或探險）性質的書呢？我想，這與心智的逐漸成熟有關。初中，是一個人的心智由懵懂開始走嚮成熟的階段。中外名著的作用，就像是為我們的心靈打開一扇又一扇窗戶，讓我們看見外麵那五彩繽紛的世界。這個時期，讀到什麼並不重要，讀懂多少也不重要，重要的是讀，是想讀，是讀個沒完。

能承繼翼人韆年之夢的觀鈴就是繼承翼人的女孩，往人（和其祖先）則是柳也他們的後代，而原作中齣現的佳乃和美凪則是和從翼人的翼掉下來的羽毛所影響的人物。故事的重心是“傢族愛”（親情）齣自作品：KEY社遊戲《AIR》（已改編為劇場版動畫和TV動畫）
