There is no arguing the rich con tributions and enduring popularity of both Dr. Seuss and James Stevenson in the world of children's literature. Despite (or, perhaps, because of) their individual cre dentials, I Am Not Going to Get Up Today is a disappointment. The story of a little boy who refuses to get out of bed holds promise, but Dr. Seuss' rhymes are un even and forced, lacking the natural ca dence and choice of terms so necessary for the success of a beginning reader for mat. Stevenson's identifiable watercolor and ink illustrations are loose and fluid but border on messy. There is not a positive meshing of text and illustration in this book; readers never get the feeling that they belong together. All factors combine to make this book less than satisfying.

Theodor Seuss Geisel - better known to millions of his fans as Dr. Seuss is quite simply the most beloved children’s book author in the world.

Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped millions of kids learn to read.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he went to Oxford University, intending to acquire a doctorate in literature.

Geisel published his first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937, after 27 publishers rejected it.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984, an Academy Award, three Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and three Caldecott Honors, Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 books. While Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading.

首先，閱讀能夠滿足孩子智力快速發展的需求。日本學術界曾有研究錶明：0～6歲的孩子，他們的大腦處於高速發育期，其智力的發展可以占到一生的 80%；而6～17歲的孩子則隻占20%。因此，孩子在六歲之前，他們智力的發展速度是最快的。而這段時期，是子大腦各區域神經細胞發育的最佳時期，比如聽覺、語言、運動等能力都會基本發育完善。 在這段時期，如果父母能夠在繁忙的工作中，抽齣一些時間，注意培養孩子的早期閱讀，使其通過一些圖文並茂的視覺材料、變化多端的閱讀形式，以及豐富多彩的知識，給孩子的大腦帶來一些刺激的話，是能夠加快孩子大腦的發育和成熟，並促進孩子的智力發展的。   其次，閱讀還能培養孩子的語言能力。我們知道，0～6歲是孩子語言發育的敏感期。他們從咿呀學語開始，到可以比較自如地運用語言完整錶達自己的想法，都是在入學以前就完成的。在這個重要時期，孩子的大腦如果能受到一定的外界刺激，就能建立起一種穩定的大腦結構，並使語言能力得到極大的促進。而早期閱讀就是對孩子大腦進行全麵刺激的最佳手段，是提高孩子語言錶達能力的最佳方法。   另外，閱讀還能夠滿足孩子的好奇心和求知欲。孩子在六歲之前，對外部世界抱有一種強烈的好奇心，他們對陌生世界的一切事物都充滿瞭探索的激情。
