　　1935年，奧地利著名的生態學傢、諾貝爾獲得者洛倫茲經過發現發現一個有趣的現象，像小鴨、小鵝這類動物，總是喜歡在破殼的前兩天追逐它第一次見到的活動的物體。比如：第一次見到的是母鵝，就追母鵝；第一次見到的是人，就追人，以為人就是自己的媽媽。並且這個習慣會長期保持。如果在這一兩天內，將它與母鵝或人分開，那麼過後，母鵝或人與小鵝再怎麼接觸，它也不會追逐母鵝或人瞭，這是由大腦的結構決定的。洛倫茲把這種現象叫"印刻現象"，把小鵝的這個時期，叫關鍵期。
