Dan Gutman is the author of many fantastic books for young readers. When he is not writing books, Dan is very often visiting a school. Thanks to his many fans who voted in their classrooms, he has received fifteen state book awards and thirty-seven book award nominations. Dan lives in Haddonfield, New Jersey, with his wife, Nina, and their two children, Sam and Emma.

中國的記言文是在記事文之先發展的。商代甲骨蔔辭大部分是些問句,記事的話不多見。兩周金文也還多以記言為主。直到戰國時代,記事文纔有瞭長足的進展。古代言文大概是閤一的,說齣的、寫下的都可以叫作“辭”。蔔辭我們稱為“辭”,《尚書》的大部分其實也是“辭”。我們相信這些辭都是當時的“雅言”①,就是當時的官話或普通話。但傳到後世,這種官話或普通話卻變成瞭詰屈聱牙的古語瞭。
