作者簡介

　　喬治·奧威爾（George Orwell，1903年6月25日-1950年1月21日），英國著名小說傢、記者和社會評論傢。他畢業於伊頓公學，後來被派到緬甸任警察。20世紀30年代，他參加西班牙內戰，迴國後卻又因被劃入左派，不得不流亡法國。二戰中，他在英國廣播公司寫報道。後來擔任《論壇報》編輯，1945年辭職。1950年，死於睏擾其數年的肺病，年盡46歲。他的代錶作《動物莊園》和《一九八四》是反極權主義的經典名著。

Of course we use those formsalready， but in the final version of Newspeak there'll be nothingelse. In the end the whole notion of goodness and badness willbe covered by only six words —— in reality， only one word.Don't you see the beauty of that， Winston? It was B.B.'s ideaoriginally， of course，" he added as an afterthought.
　　A sort of vapid eagerness flitted across Winston's face atthe mention of Big Brother. Nevertheless Syme immediatelydetected a certain lack of enthusiasm.
　　"You haven't a real appreciation of Newspeak， Winston，"he said almost sadly. "Even when you write it you're stillthinking in Oldspeak. I've read some of those pieces thatyou write in the Times occasionally. They're good enough，but they're translations. In your heart you'd prefer to stickto Oldspeak， with all its vagueness and its useless shades ofmeaning. You don't grasp the beauty of the destruction ofwords. Do you know that Newspeak is the only language in theworld whose vocabulary gets smaller every year?"
