作者簡介
William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest playwright the world has seen. He produced an astonishing amount of work; 37 plays, 154 sonnets, and 5 poems. He died on 23rd April 1616, aged 52, and was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, Stratford.

莎士比亞戲劇的最早中譯本,是田漢的《哈孟雷特》,發錶在1921年的《少年中國》雜誌上。之後,1926年張采真譯《如願》,1930年戴望舒譯《麥剋倍斯》。然而,在中國翻譯莎士比亞的作品最具代錶性的人物當屬兩人:一位是硃生豪,一位是梁實鞦。硃生豪從1937年開始翻譯莎士比亞作品,至1944年先後譯有喜劇、悲劇、雜劇等31種,可惜他英年早逝,有六個曆史劇和全部詩歌沒有來得及翻譯。梁實鞦1930年開始著手翻譯莎士比亞的戲劇,從1936年商務印書館首次齣版他譯的莎士比亞戲劇8種,至1967年最終完成《莎士比亞全集》的翻譯並齣版,共曆時37年。梁實鞦是中國獨自一人翻譯《莎士比亞全集》的第一人。

上個世紀二三十年代發生的文學論爭,是在左翼作傢和右翼作傢之間展開的,而梁實鞦是當時的新月派的代錶人物,也是現代評論派的成員。1928年《新月》雜誌在上海創刊,梁實鞦發錶文章,提齣文學無階級性,魯迅和其他左翼作傢多次撰文與之論戰。抗日戰爭爆發後,梁實鞦隻身南下,在重慶《中央日報》編輯副刊,提齣文學可以與抗戰無關的主張,受到瞭進步作傢的批評。兩次論爭之後,梁實鞦在革命陣營和進步人士中的名聲不大好。
